Hi. I have dislocated my knee far the 3rd time. I am currently on crutches and was wondering what the next step will be. Would a knee brace help or do you recommend something else?

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your knee. The fact that you've suffered from knee dislocations multiple times does mean that I think you would benefit from further treatment. Anytime the knee dislocates you risk damaging other structures in the knee so it is definitely worth getting it checked out.

Are you under an orthopedic consultant? If not, I would recommend asking your doctor to refer you to one as there is most likely an underlying cause making you more prone to recurrent knee dislocations.

A knee brace may help in the short term, but there will almost certainly be a better long term solution which may include physical therapy, bracing or even knee surgery.

Hi Chloe. Thanks for the response. I have now been referred to a knee specialist at the knee clinic for more tests. Thanks for your help.  Edward
